Tahoe
is truly the “grand old man” of the pack string. He entered
semi-retirement at 19—2005 was the first year he didn’t go on any
commercial trips or the Kings Peak trip. Throughout his packing career,
he had the prime pack llama attitude. He showed absolutely no
sign of wanting to retire, so we reluctantly made the decision to give
him his well-earned rest. His example has served the others well as he
led our string for seven years. He’s still in great shape, accompanies
the others on day hikes, and stands ready to teach any new llamas how
it’s done. He has definite “presence” and, although we trust all of our
llamas to be careful and patient with children, Tahoe is the one we
pick to be led by the tiniest, shyest, or least stable on their feet.
