Yarrow
is a particularly special llama to us. From what we are told, as a
young llama, he was loaned to a troubled 4-H child. The boy took out
his frustrations on Yarrow and, upon his return back home, his owner
met the anxiety that produced with impatience. That left him fearfully
compliant with the handling necessary for packing and extremely
uncomfortable with attention directed his way. A child abuse victim who
once visited connected with him immediately, observing quietly that,
while he would never completely get over his fears, he maybe could
learn to trust if given a chance. She was right. He’s been with us
since 1997 and is one of our most reliable packers, but the best part
about Yarrow is the progress he has allowed himself to make to recover
from the abuse. He received his “Advanced Pack Llama” certification in
2003. (1988)
